Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on court had led observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
