Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
